Twelve Talking Dolls: The Subjects

You take care of the dolls. The dolls will take care of you.

Meet the twelve talking dolls. They scream, cry and comfort, threaten and pray, seduce and order, invoke and plead, explain, hypnotize, confess and terrorize. As an audience member you can pick the dolls up and hold them, take care of them and manipulate them. Or just listen. Together with the other participants in the piece, you create the condition that enables the dolls to appear as a part of your human kinship.

The doll is a thing, but also a body. It has arms and legs, eyes and mouth. When you look at the doll, it returns the gaze. It is speaking and singing. It becomes one of all these objects that ting and pling around you, demanding different types of response. We can have feelings for the doll, tenderness and care, but also nervosity or unease. It is in a borderland creature between life and death. The doll is undead. And it wants something from you.

The piece presents unique handmade stoneware dolls equipped with responsive but pre-recorded voices belonging to twelve different actors. The voices create a polyphonic soundscape that the participants enter, shape and are shaped by. They can also choose to just listen and watch.

Here, a door opens to a playful and eerie world where the dolls are in power precisely through being dolls.

Du tar hand om dockorna. Dockorna tar hand om dig.

De skriker, gråter och tröstar, hotar och ber, förför och beordrar, åberopar och bönar, förklarar, hypnotiserar, bekänner och terroriserar.  Som publik kan du plocka upp och hålla dockorna, svara dem, ta hand om dem och manipulera dem. Eller bara lyssna. Tillsammans med de andra deltagarna i verket skapar du förutsättningen för att dockorna ska framträda som en del av er mänskliga gemenskap.

Dockan är ett ting, men den är också en kropp. Den har armar och ben, ögon och mun. När du tittar på dockan tittar dockan också på dig. Den talar och sjunger. Den blir ett av alla objekt som plingar till, som kräver olika former av gensvar. Vi kan få känslor för dockan, ömhet och omsorg, men också nervositet eller oro. Den befinner sig i ett gränsland mellan liv och död. Dockan är odöd. Och den vill dig något.

Verket presenterar unika handgjorda dockor i stengods försedda med responsiva men förinspelade röster, som härstammar från tolv olika skådespelare. Rösterna bildar ett polyfont ljudlandskap som besökarna träder in i, formar och formas av. De kan också välja att lyssna och betrakta.

Här öppnas porten till en lekfull och kuslig värld där dockorna, i egenskap av just dockor, sätter tonen.

Svärmar, drönande och kollektiv kontemplation av och för cyborger i kris

Du vänder dig bort från världen och kliver in en ljudande och lysande zon. Du ser dig omkring. Någon kommer fram till dig. Du får ett erbjudande. Du tackar ja. Undandragandet accelerar. Du kopplas samman med olika spel, system och kroppar. Du utforskar och tar fram nya taktiker. Du drönar. Du ansluter dig till svärmen. Du kopplar av. Du vilar dig fram till en handling. Du upprättar ett politiskt paradigm. Det blir paradigmskifte. Du identifierar, förstärker och förändrar dina överlevnadsstrategier. De handlar inte längre om överlevnad, utan om att överskrida det du försöker leva med. Du ser på världen från andra sidan den svarta spegeln. Du swipar vidare.

Rummet öppnas kl 18 men du kommer när det passar och lämnar när du känner dig klar.

Tactical Meditations

Swarms, droning and collective contemplation by and for cyborgs in crisis.

You turn your back to the world and step into a sounding space. You look around. Someone comes up to you with a proposal. You accept. The withdrawal accelerates. You connect to different games, systems and bodies. You explore and produce new tactics. You are droning. You join the swarm. You disconnect. You rest your way into an action. You install a political paradigm. There is a shift of paradigm. You identify, reinforce and modify your strategies for survival. They are now no longer about survival, but about surpassing what you are trying to cope with. You look back at the world from the other side of the black mirror. You touch the screen.

The room opens at 18.00, but you come when you want to  and leave when you’re ready.

The performing arts collective Nyxxx makes works that the audience experience by participating. The collective has previously visited Turteatern & Inkonst with Avatarvaro (2012) and Human Agency (2014).

Human Agency – a new avatar performance at Inkonst & Turteatern

A participatory avatar piece about different bodies and possibilities to act in a world where new technologies enables and disables human fellowships. 

Welcome to Human Agency, an organization with twelve voices but no bodies. When you join us you will be able to listen to one of these voices and become the body which enables the organization to operate in the world. Human Agency emerges between the organic, technical and the virtual elements. You become an avatar, confronting life in a new way through your own senses. Becoming a ”member body” in Human Agency you will get access to a new techno-social approach to life. 

We live in an era where the approach to life changes and shifts in relation to different machines and medias. Technologies and human beings melt together and forms new symbiotic bodies. Human Agency examines these new bodies through a meeting between free human beings and voice-navigated avatars.

Human Agency invites you to be navigated. Different voices will lead you through the piece. Through head phones you will get instructions on how to move, talk and act and you can also influence how.

Nyxxx is a performing arts collective with members from Copenhagen, Malmö and Stockholm. Their aim is to create performances with the audience in the centre. The form for the audience participation differs in their work but often they use head phones with instructions that stimulate action.

Human Agency – nytt avatarverk på Inkonst och Turteatern

Välkommen till Human Agency, en organisation som har 12 röster men inga kroppar. När du kommer in till oss får du möjlighet att lyssna till en av dessa röster och bli till den kropp som är förutsättningen för att organisationen ska kunna verka i världen. Human Agency uppstår mellan det organiska, tekniska och virtuella. Du blir till en avatar som ser livet på ett nytt sätt genom dina egna sinnen. Som medlemskropp i Human Agency får du tillgång till en ny teknosocial livshållning.

Vi lever i en tid där livsupplevelsen förändras och förskjuts i relation till olika maskiner och medier. Teknik och människor smälter samman och formar nya symbiotiska kroppar. Verket Human Agency undersöker dessa nya kroppar genom att skapa en mötesplats för fria människor och röststyrda avatarer.

I föreställningen Human Agency kan du välja att bli styrd av en röst. Någon annan kan välja att ta din plats. Human Agency är en inbjudan till att byta positioner. Med hjälp av förprogrammerade instruktioner, objekt, ljus och andra besökare navigerar du genom rummet – handlar, rör dig, betraktar. Du kan påverka hur ditt deltagande ser ut, men ingen kommer att stå utanför situationen. Du behöver inga förkunskaper för att delta.

Avatarvaro (The Avatar Condition) – Brief

There is no audience.
There are no actors.
The Avatar Condition is something else.
Discover who you become when someone else makes your decisions.

The Avatar Condition is an invitation to being controlled. To act without having to make decisions. Through headphones, you are instructed to move, speak and act – collectively and individually. You don’t need any prior knowledge to participate. A voice will guide you through the piece, which takes place as much in your own head as it does in the space.

The Avatar Condition has been developed in Stockholm, Malmö, Västerås and Copenhagen during the last year. The Avatar Condition was played in Stockholm theatre Turteatern December 8-11 of 2011, and in Malmö at Inkonst in May 2012.

Where will it go next? Maybe to a black box, dance studio, abandoned industrial building or inhabited villa close to you…
